Ra Ra Riot - Reaction/Thoughts

I just got in the door from tonight's Ra Ra Riot show @ the Iron Horse, and what a satisfying experience it was altogether. Quite simply, Ra Ra Riot combines one of the most engaging live performances I have seen in quite some time with wonderfully constructed multi-faceted songs, while featuring a perfect balance of new and established material to satisfy any fan's palate. The songs are overflowing with livliness, even more so in person than recorded, and the comradery amongst the members is a sight to behold.

The night's opening act, Whistle Jacket, sounded at their best like a bastard child of Wolf Parade & the Dead Milkmen, unfortunately these moments were few and far between and their set annoyed more than it inspired. It was a packed crowd, especially considering it was their first trip to Northampton, but tragically it was one littered with your standard "play freebird!" variety characters. Whether people do this because they find amusement in being that anonymous asshole in the crowded setting, or they honestly still believe this proclamation is still clever or comical is puzzling and wide open to debate.

Despite these detractors, Ra Ra Riot delivered in a big way and instantly secured their forthcoming full length a spot on my most desired list. Go listen to this band, now, & expect a full review and pictures for Sunday night.

The only time it's acceptable to yell something out from the crowd is if you're at a Jason Anderson show and he hasn't played 'the time machine' song yet.
